Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe Wants To Be A Modern-Day SLS Sedan

But that’s not how Affalterbach sees it. According to Merc’s performance division, it “draws directly on the legendary SLS and AMG GT models” and “is the first four-door sports car” from AMG.

Regardless of how it is described, it’s hard to deny the obvious: despite the unusual name, the new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe is a very exciting car. It’s one of Mercedes‘ most important premieres of the year, and it currently dominates the AMG family in terms of power.

The official 0-62mph (0-100km/h) sprint takes just 3.2 seconds, or 0.2 seconds slower than the Ferrari 488 GTB. Top speed stands at 195mph (315km/h) in the ‘S’ model, which has 630hp (639PS) and 663lb-ft (900Nm) of torque.

Even the non-S version is more powerful than the Mercedes-AMG GT R, making 576hp (585PS) and 590lb-ft (800Nm) of torque from the same twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8.

Unveiled at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show earlier this week, the new GT 4-Door Coupe is being celebrated by the manufacturer in the three videos that you can watch right after the break.
