Polestar 1 Touching Down In Geneva For Its European Debut

The show will commence on March 6, with the first press day, and this is when Polestar will host a media event, at 16:30 CET (10:30am EST), bringing its first standalone product forward: the Polestar 1.

“We are looking forward to exhibiting at the Geneva Motor Show, and are excited to hear feedback and see the reactions from the public on our first car and our new brand”, said Polestar’s CEO, Thomas Ingenlath.

Unveiled in Shanghai last fall, the 2+2 GT sits on Volvo’s SPA platform. It represents much more than a sleek styling, as it uses a plug-in hybrid powertrain that combines a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with two electric motors. The combined output stands at a staggering 600PS (592hp) and 1,000Nm (738lb-ft) of torque.

Volvo’s brand won’t divulge how fast the new Polestar 1 actually is, but they claim that it has “the longest electric-only driving range of any hybrid car in the world”, at 150km (93 miles), in Pure mode.

Production for the hybrid GT will start in mid-2019, and it will be limited to 500 units annually, for the next three years. However, the automaker could expand those numbers eventually, as they have more than 5,000 potential customers for it, despite a rumored starting price between €130,000 and €150,000 (equal to $160,129-$184,765).

Around the same time when assembly of the 1 will commence, the Polestar brand will be launched in United States too, alongside the European markets, and China.
